Hadleigh Christian Aid Group
Hadleigh Christian Aid Group (Group ref no 128584) covers the area defined by the Parishes of St James The Less and St Barnabas. (St Barnabas Church officially joined the group in 2009.)

Currently, the group does not have an Organiser or Treasurer, following the resignation of Malcolm Brown from both posts in 2010.

Malcolm has ordered material for Christian Aid Week 2011 and a few volunteers from interested churches will be doing a limited house-to-house collection.

If you would like to help with the Christian Aid administration by volunteering as Organiser and/or Treasurer, or help with the house-to-house collection or other fundraising, please contact Malcolm on 01702 557678.

Past results from Christian Aid Week fundraising may be found in the 'Past Events' section further down this page.

Prayer for Castle Point
On 31 January 2006, representatives from many of the churches in Castle Point met at the Oasis Christian Centre in Benfleet to consider setting up a "Love Castle Point" initiative, similar to "Love Southend".

The Mission of "Love Southend" is to show God’s Love to the people of Southend in practical ways, through projects which improve the town and by communicating that God loves each and every person. The website can be viewed at:
http://www.lovesouthend.org

After discussion, it was considered that, before any other action is taken, the matter should be prayerfully considered and, to this end, Prayer Meetings have been held since then.

In 2008, the vision of taking prayer out into the streets of our communuity was initiated under the banner of the national campaign 'Hope 2008'. Many churches across the nation took part in various forms of outreach into the community. Since then regular outreach events have been held at various locations including the Knightswick Centre, Morrisons on Canvey, Castle Point Show, The White Hart pub in Thundersley Village, the Iceland store in Hadleigh, Hadleigh Farmers Market and Tarpots.

No dates have, yet, been set for 2011. Further announcements concerning plans for Castle Point will be announced soon. Thse will be part of a new strategy supported by the recently launched National 'Hope Together' campaign.

Please check on our web site for the latest news and information.

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Hadleigh Methodist Church kindly organised a Pentecost Praise event in the Memorial Recreation Ground, opposite the church. A blazing hot day saw thousands of cars travelling into Southend but only relatively few people at the Pentecost Praise. Nevertheless, those who attended were treated to some entertaining but thought-provoking sketches based on Christian stories, which were produced by Roger Kingston, and some excellent puppeteering by teenager Robert, which included some songs with words adapted to give a Christian message.

Thank you to Roger and all the folk at the Methodist Church for all the hard work that went into the event. Despite the very hot sun, those who were there were very glad that they had come!

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

2008 year saw the 100th Anniversary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This was first marked by Father Paul Wattson, an Episcopalian Franciscan priest in the USA who introduced a Prayer Octave for Christian Unity, celebrated from 18th to 25th January.

The aims of the Week of Prayer are:
~ To pray as Christ prayed, "that they may be one".
~ To pray for the unity of all Christian people as we share in Christ's ministry.

The readings and meditations in 2008 focused on Paul's advice to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Services were held in Hadleigh as follows:

Mon 21 Jan - 8.00pm - Methodist Church
Tue 22 Jan - 8.00pm - Baptist Church
Wed 23 Jan - 5.30pm - St. Michael’s Church, Daws Heath
Thu 24 Jan - 8.00pm - St. Thomas More Church
Fri 25 Jan - 8.00pm - United Reformed Church

Thank you to all who supported the Week of Prayer and special thanks to those who led the services, namely, Roger Kingston, Rev. Paul Stow, Rev. Anne Dollery, George Stone and Rev. Jack Roche.
